This January was perhaps the longest three months of my life.
Marked by grief, exciting work opps, emergency plane tickets, dystopic politics and the type of groundbreaking introspection that can only happen under the weight of 8cm snowfalls.
Here’s what we got into this month❄️
Labouring
finished - a strategy for a powdered greens brand that lives outside of trend cycles 😌 🙏
Boom Boom Aesthetic - a vibe shift to dark mode. Sean Monahan argues that we’re nostalgic for a past vision of modernity. It’s a feeling I haven’t been
able to quite articulate - but he captures it perfectly.
it’s the feeling of Donald Trump being a poor man’s idea of what a rich man looks like
In a postmodern world where everything is broken, we’re not chasing virtues. Instead, we’re embracing the vices from a (seemingly) bygone era
think embracing codes of formality, hierarchy and tradition
It made me think of the luxe 1980s glam world Ali Abassi created in The Apprentice
another vibe shift - last year, I was far more focused on My Business™️. Frameworks were built! Networks popped off! LinkedIn did its thing! Necessary evils of doing your own thing. This year I’m switching gears and prioritizing creativity + the quality of my ideas/thinking. This involves a lot of tangential knowledge-seeking, free-writing, yearning etc. It feels goooooood.
Leisuring
learning how to dj - see “tangential knowledge-seeking” above.
🔮manifesting🔮
That’s all I’m doing right now! hope the third month of January wasn’t too hard on you <3
stay warm,
Ari
